The Indie Writer project, Week 3 check-in

Some light reading for you, featuring the latest writing from The Indie Writer community...

Dear writers,

The weather over here has been really mixed lately. One minute the sun is shining, and the next there's a downpour. I spotted a rainbow as I was driving home yesterday...

We're currently in week 3 of this project.

Today, you're invited to simply enjoy some reading from the community 📖

I hope you'll spend a moment to click on just one or two of the blogs. As Week 3's theme is “things I like to read”, perhaps you'll discover a new book or two...

Enjoy!

📝  Things written during week 3 so far...

Theme: “the things I like to read”

Some people may find this strange, but reading is seriously a big part of how I get my needs met… I’m so grateful for my local library. I borrow a LOT of books. I keep them in piles on the floor beside my favourite sofa or near my kids’ beds. Nadine’s blog (#18)

I love to read inspirational stories about remarkable people who did extraordinary things. It makes me smile and I often need a smile to get me through the day. I also really enjoy reading young adult fantasy fiction because this is what I write when I work on novels. I currently have four young adult fantasy fiction novels on Amazon. Celeste's blog (#59)

Love books with a garden or cooking theme and even a cozy mystery or two. Just love to read and usually do read a book per week. Belonging to book review clubs helps to keep my reading fresh. Sue's blog (#77)

A path made clear by oprah winfrey. It's a book of quotes and motivational talks by Oprah Winfrey from her life and “aha “ moments. She also shares quotes from her friends and snippets from interviews she has done. I find that I read a chapter every day. and reflect on the theme of the chapter. It is a nice book to start the day with. Reensarai's blog (#49)

Despite this digital and online world with streaming services and videos galore, I prefer reading over most other media. I read efficiently, it is second nature to me, it is like breathing. No wonder I love to write! Books opened the world to me when I was a child in a closed community. Kat's blog (#84)

There are books on Shamanism, Native American issues, Writing, spiritual and Art and, Nature books . I love books. I worked in a library for 6 years, a few years back. Books are my friends, I suppose! Rita's blog (#72)

Oh, Carrie. This was the book that introduced me to Stephen King. I was a big horror fan in all its forms but King will always be the king… Carrie was a kindred spirit (I was still at school when I discovered the book) and as I read it, it was like I had made a friend. My oldest brother didn’t want me to read it, thinking it would be too much for me at such a young age, but it was exactly the book I needed. Vicky's blog (#33)

I like books with beautiful prose or occasionally poetry, mystery or action, fantasy or sci-fi. And that’s time. Hoping the next prompt is something easier to write about than me. Melaina’s blog (#39)

Currently I am reading a novel called A More Perfect Union about the convergence of the Irish Potato Blight and slavery in the American South. I like historical fiction. I also like to follow themes of interest on personalityhacker.com. Here I learn more about my Infj personality and how it shows up in the world. Jeff’s blog (#22)

I’ve switched to using e-readers in the past few years because I don’t want to buy any more shelves! I bought the cheapest Black-and-White kindle I could find, and I think I like it better than any of the color tablets I’ve tried (simplicity is best!) I think I prefer reading physical books, but I don’t want to physically own every book I’ve read. John’s blog (#47)

Other themes:

I’m twenty-five years old, and I like to draw. I like to cook. I run to keep calm. I take care of my 95-year-old grandmother. Maxim’s blog (#2)

I was struggling from moving every 6 months to a year in school, and nearly dropped out of my high school with a 1.3 GPA. At that point, in my senior year, my counselor mentioned to my mother “You probably need to discuss learning difficulties privately, but it’s too late for that now.” I knew then finally, she was referring to the autism I had known I had. Erina’s blog (#50)

I grew up in a middle class family as an only child. My dad used to work at one of the steel factories and my mother was a housewife. I showed early signs of promise and my parents took that as a sign that I would be the next big thing in their generation – the prodigal son who would lift them up from the shackles of poverty. Since then, I’ve had a weird relationship with work, money, time and what it meant to be a human. I have long grappled with these questions and with sustained efforts, I’m getting closer to attaining clarity each day. Shounak’s blog (#36)

If I sit and try to come up with what to write about it only makes things harder for me. For me to start writing I need to be able to start and just flow. If I stop to look back or edit or think to much about what I'm writing then I develop writers block. So today I shall just flow. Lesley’s blog (#94)

I have some free time now so I am doing every possible thing to keep me away from academics. In the past week,  I finished Origins by Dan Brown and immediately started reading another book. Secondly, I am playing video games – more like screaming and laughing with my friends in the lobbies. Iftee’s blog (#63)

Since I was three, I wanted to be an artist. There’s a kindergarten graduation certificate tucked in my parent’s apartment somewhere to prove it. I couldn't tell you why I wanted to be an artist when I was three, but because I did, it was the one thing that guided my decisions for the following seventeen years. When I was twelve, I announced to my class that I was going to be ‘a struggling artist in New York.’ Anna’s blog (#10)

What I know about me:  - Adoptee – difficulty with trust, relationships - LOVED school  - Have wanted to retire since age 12 - Writer, graphic designer, web designer – passionate about words, shapes and color wsquared’s blog (#69)

About me–I’ve been struggling with who I am since I was a teenager, trying to discover the person I want to be. Trying to make peace with my past selves and know that I can work to be the best version of myself. The present is an awesome place, but the future is even sweeter. I only have to remember that and work toward it. Patricia’s blog (#41)

I love to sit on the ground with my back leaning against a tree feeling my heart beat and the pulse of her support behind me.  I like to rescue bees and flying ants from the pool on soft green velvet geranium leaves bigger than my father’s hands.  Sometimes they fly or crawl back into the water and I wonder if they just like to swim or they’re attracted to dangerous environments like I have been in a past life. Gaye’s blog (#21)

My favorite word is fuck. My favorite color is purple. My favorite band is Nine Inch Nails. And my favorite foods are Indian, Mexican, and Italian, not necessarily in that order. None of this will help you guess any of my passwords. I can’t whistle and I don’t like honey, which my husband thinks is weird. And I’m usually way more self-deprecating than this. Krys’s blog (#71)

Uh, what else. Writing, gardening, linocuts, letterpress printing. I used to enjoy socialising but now I just need loads of time for myself. I used to hate washing up but now I find it kind of meditative. Josephine’s blog (#76)

I have an interview coming up to be a volunteer at The Museum of Idaho. I want to be a docent and lead tours. I was a docent for over a year at The American Museum of Natural History back in New York. I fell in love with that museum the day I wandered away from the babysitter and explored it for hours on my own. Frances’s blog (#70)

Happy reading! 📖

See you again on Sunday for the next challenge :)
