I believe in God. 

I don’t know where this comes from, or why. 

Some people believe in the Universe and the interconnectedness of things, and I do too. 

But I also have faith in God. 

I’ve spent time exploring Sikhi and Christianity, and other matters of religion and spirituality through books and art and conversations. 

Where does religion end and spirituality begin?

When I was kid, I was asked where my “bhag” was (turban). At primary school an old English teacher of mine derided my by calling me “Susan”, when I was growing my hair. I remember reciting prayers with Mum in the car, and being exposed to the sweet sound of Kirtan at the Gurudwara (Sikh temple). 

I went to a Church this weekend. 

I’ve spent time in various Churches around the world, reading the Bible, and in devotional worship. I’ve attended Christmas carol services, I’ve spent time in big Churches and small Churches.

Reading Song of Solomon (Old Testament) and watching Christian couples on Youtube has helped me with my pornography journey, in a way that nothing else has.

And so, as I was sharing with my therapist earlier today, I’m “coming out” when it comes to my faith in God. She tentatively shared with me that she’s an atheist… we joked, we asked one another questions, and we hugged at the end. 

There’s more things we have in common than that which separates us, don’t you think? 

Whoever you are, whatever you believe, we can be friends. We all can.
